Fit through the winter

Cold symptoms and flu-like infections occur more frequently in winter. But why is that? Youth Club explains and provides valuable tips for a stronger immune system.

Cold season ahead

The multiplication of numerous components leads to a high number of cases of illness in the cold months. The protagonists in this debacle are, of course, viruses and bacteria, which feel most at home in cold temperatures. A brief summary of why infections increase in winter:

  • Influenza viruses are more stable in cool, dry weather: The increase in viruses in the air goes hand in hand with new infections.
  • Dry air dries out the mucous membranes in the airways and thus restricts their barrier function.
  • In cold weather, people spend more time in closed, poorly ventilated rooms , which favors the spread of pathogens.
  • Staying indoors and less sunshine often lead to a vitamin D deficiency. The result? A weakening of the immune system, which can increase susceptibility to illness.
  • In winter, the diet is often unhealthy, as people are more inclined to eat hearty, carbohydrate-rich dishes and desserts. This can lead to a lack of nutrients and loss of energy

An effective immune system is crucial for enjoying the cold season to the full with its festivities, winter delights and sports activities.

But what exactly is the immune system?

The immune system is a complex network of organs, cells, proteins and molecules. It consists of two components: the innate and the acquired immune system.

Innate immune system:
It reacts immediately to potential intruders. The immune response is fast, but not specific to certain pathogens, so it is only able to prevent the spread of germs in the body to a limited extent. The components include skin and mucous membranes as well as defense cells and proteins. The closed nature of the skin
and mucous membranes also provides mechanical protection. Our organism is constantly on the move, and the intestines, for example, prevent pathogens from becoming trapped.

Example: A small cut does not lead to infection thanks to an immediate immune response. The bacteria are quickly detected and destroyed.

Acquired immune system:
Although this part of the immune system acts more slowly, it is more specific and remembers pathogens so that it can react more quickly in future contacts. This is the reason why some infections are only contracted once. It is also known as the adaptive immune system and a distinction is made between two types of immune response:

  • Humoral response: antibodies are produced
  • Cellular response: Infected cells are attacked

Keeping us safe

The immune system protects the body from the invasion of viruses, bacteria, parasites and other harmful microorganisms. In the event of illness, its task is to fight these off and rid the organism of harmful substances in order to protect it from chronic restrictions. The immune system also removes the body's own cells that are no longer in good condition in order to maintain the body's function. In short: the task of the immune system is to protect the body from invaders or to cure it.

Immune Boost

Fortunately, the immune system can be given a helping hand: Conscious everyday decisions such as a balanced diet, limited alcohol and nicotine consumption, sufficient exercise and good sleep can make a difference. Even if the temperatures don't always motivate you to do so: Exercise and walks in the fresh air are good for the body, as is regular ventilation. Herbal tea blends, baths, saunas, steam baths, infrared and light therapies are pleasantly soothing and effective at the same time. For the brave, we recommend cold chambers and hot ginger shots!

The Youth Club is committed to modern preventive medicine: Our aim is to prevent diseases before they affect the body. Improving the immune system with the help of high-dose vitamin infusions is an evidence-based form of therapy to sustainably improve health. If symptoms of illness such as fatigue are already noticeable, our practical concierge service is worthwhile: our drips can also be administered on location on request.

Our season favorites at a glance:

  • High Dose Vitamin C: Vitamin C strengthens our immune system and counteracts antioxidant stress. Our daily energy levels are significantly boosted.
  • Gluthation: The most powerful antioxidant counteracts oxidative stress, detoxifies our body inside-out and increases the activity of our immune cells.
  • B vitamins: They not only support the immune system, but also convert carbohydrates and other nutrients into energy, which we can't get enough of during the gray months.
  • Zinc: We fight the symptoms of illness with a good dose of zinc.
  • Vitamin D: Winter depression and mood swings can be promoted by an acute vitamin D deficiency. Our tip: A vitamin D depot injection can protect against deficiency symptoms for 3-4 months.
  • IHHT (interval hypoxia-hyperoxia training): Our altitude training supports cell regeneration, strengthens the body holistically and helps to reduce oxidative stress, which occurs particularly in winter due to cold, poor nutrition and the like. Incidentally, IHHT was even awarded the Nobel Prize for its positive effects on the body.

Our credo: prevention instead of aftercare.

We support our patients all year round with modern preventive medicine. Based on blood analyses and individual therapy plans and medical consultations, we put together tailor-made treatments to be optimally prepared for the cold season, among other things. Together we say goodbye to symptoms of illness!
